Ambie & Mike Take Back the Nightlife: Party Positive with Secret Dance Addiction
Show Notes

#39:  Ambie and Mike Handby are Sober DJ's who love music and love to party.  Realizing that spaces to party safely without intoxicants were hard to find, they co-founded Secret Dance Addiction (SDA), and committed to normalizing a healthy nightlife that rejects the belief that we must drink to have fun. Three years later, SDA has redefined what the nightlife looks and feels like, and proves that it is possible to let loose, party, & connect in a positive environment. In this episode we discuss:

  • The prevalence of addiction and substance use in the culture of music festivals and clubs,
  • What it looks like to “party positive” in a space that lets people connect as their true selves without the filter of drugs and alcohol,
  • The need to “take back” traditional drinking spaces whose revenue model is driven by alcohol sales, and create more inclusive nightclubs with full non-alcoholic beverage menus,
  • How addiction is a box... and recovery can be too,
  • The power of taking back the party, including the language we use around nightlife. Why Mike and Ambie love and use the term “get lit” at sober events.
