Dana: Just Hold On; To Hope, to Grace, & to Each Other
Show Notes

#35:  The first time Dana Smith walked into a Phoenix class, the simple question “how are you doing?” brought unexpected tears.  After a long road to recovery that included addiction, incarceration, & living on the streets of Chicago, being able to answer that question with honesty and vulnerability was a brand new experience.  With that same honesty and vulnerability, Dana shares her thoughts with us today.

Some of our conversation includes:

  • The power of stories to create real connection- even in the most challenging circumstances,
  • How Dana’s Phoenix community showed up in love and support following a recent unthinkable tragedy,
  • The way her personal recovery has evolved from the early days on a pink cloud,
  • Learning the importance of allies to the recovery movement through her work in development,
  • What it was like to “grow up” in prison, and the hope and grace she was taught to seek out... even in a place that lacked those things,
  • Gratitude and motherhood, and the joy that comes from every precious moment.
