Doug: Rock Bottoms, Surrender, and Gaining Identity in Recovery
#19: Today we are joined by fellow recovery podcaster, Doug Pancy, host of the Casting Light Podcast. We hear Doug's personal story; one that includes more starts and stops than he can count, and the "spiritual death" that had to finally happen for him to let go of his ego and step into a life of recovery. As Doug says, "Rock bottom is what you make it."
Once grappling for a sense of belonging and identity, Doug now knows who he is, what he enjoys, and can say with confidence that today, he is truly happy.
We discuss professional treatment as a pathway to sobriety, the power of how we talk to ourselves, and some challenges of new recovery. When he stopped using substances, Doug was left with parts of himself that still needed healing- even after the drugs and alcohol were gone. Throughout our conversation, Doug expresses his gratitude for the entire journey, and for a community that lifts one other up through shared experiences and hard-earned wisdom.
